Finding A Talented Plumber

Although it may seem simple to fix little things around your house, the fact of the matter is that there are a few professionals who really do work hard to make your life better. For instance, while you may be likely to paint your place on your own, even doing something as simple as switching out a toilet can be really challenging. I started thinking about how valuable professionals like plumbers were for my business, and I wanted to start a new blog that centered around how much a plumber can help to make your life better. Check out this website for tips on finding a talented plumber.

Be Prepared For Plumbing Emergencies Before They Happen

by Vernon Elliott

As with most things in life, it's better to be proactive than reactive when it comes to emergency plumbing services.

It's probably not something you've ever given much thought to, but sudden plumbing emergencies can be catastrophic! You can't exactly call 911 for a burst pipe, but some plumbing problems do require emergency response times. In order to be as prepared as possible, you should know what to do, and who to call, during a plumbing emergency.

Assess the situation

Depending on the severity of your emergency, you may need to assess the safety of even entering your home or building. With severe flooding, there comes the risk of the water making contact with electrical appliances and outlets. If you think that the overflow of water has made contact with any kind of electricity, do not go in.

Shut off the water

If you are not in any immediate danger, you should shut off the water immediately. Many appliances will have a valve present on the water lines leading to them that will allow you to shut off the flow of water. If it is a broken pipe, you may need to shut off the main water line coming into your house, which is typically located in the basement, or just outside of your house. As a homeowner, you should be aware of the locations of all of these valves, and know how to operate them.

Mitigate the leak

For smaller leaks, you may be able to temporarily reduce the flow of water with some plumbers tape, or using old rags or fabrics to wrap up the problem areas. This can save you from a small problem causing greater damage while you wait for the professionals to arrive.

Know who to call

In a plumbing emergency, time is of the essence. Water damage can cause serious damage and require extensive repair if not addressed quickly, so you need to know your options for speedy assistance.

The best way to do this is to do a google search for "emergency plumber" or "emergency plumbing service" in your area.

Before you jot down any phone numbers, be sure to read their offerings carefully! Check to see what kind of emergency services they provide, what their response times are, and if there are any additional fees associated with emergency service calls. Most emergency plumbing services are equipped to repair everything from hot water heaters to broken water mains, and depending on your area can get to you in as quickly as 30 minutes.
