Finding A Talented Plumber

Although it may seem simple to fix little things around your house, the fact of the matter is that there are a few professionals who really do work hard to make your life better. For instance, while you may be likely to paint your place on your own, even doing something as simple as switching out a toilet can be really challenging. I started thinking about how valuable professionals like plumbers were for my business, and I wanted to start a new blog that centered around how much a plumber can help to make your life better. Check out this website for tips on finding a talented plumber.

Finding A Talented Plumber

Plumbing Tools Every Homeowner Needs

by Vernon Elliott

If you have a plumbing problem, the most important thing you need to do is contact a plumber. Otherwise, the overall costs will be much greater than they would otherwise be. However, in an emergency, you'll want to correct your plumbing problems as quickly as possible with plumbing tools that every homeowner should own.

Cup and Basin Plungers

Every homeowner should own a plunger. The flange plunger is what most are familiar with and is used to unclog toilets. The other type of plunger is the cup plunger. This is smaller and is used to remove clogs from sinks, basins, and bathtubs. Ideally, you should have a flange plunger in every bathroom.

A Plumber's Snake

Often, the plunger isn't enough to remove a clog. When this is the case, the best option is to use an auger, also called a "plumber's snake." The auger is a long, metal wire that extends and clears away clogs as it goes. It uses a hand crank to generate the force necessary to remove clogs. Augers are often able to remove hard objects, such as if a toy was accidentally flushed down the toilet.

A Basin Wrench

The basin wrench is the most basic tool that every DIY plumbing job requires. It can be used to tighten nuts and bolts around a sink or a faucet. The basin wrench is flexible enough to where it can reach deep and narrow spaces behind the sink.

An Adjustable Wrench

The adjustable wrench is used for any parts of a plumbing system that have a hexagonal-shaped nut. The best adjustable wrenches have a firm jaw setting that allows you to work a nut so that you can perform repairs for these sections of your plumbing system.

A Pipe Wrench

Not everyone agrees with which wrench is the most important. Sometimes the pipe wrench is considered the most important DIY plumber's wrench. This is larger than the adjustable wrench and is used to tighten and loosen fittings and nuts. You'll usually need two pipe wrenches, with one used to grip and the other used to turn. The jaw must always be wrapped in cloth to protect the fixture from damage.

While you may be able to make some temporary repairs after you have a plumbing emergency, you'll always want to hire a plumber to perform a full inspection of your plumbing and find out everything that is wrong with it.
