Finding A Talented Plumber

Although it may seem simple to fix little things around your house, the fact of the matter is that there are a few professionals who really do work hard to make your life better. For instance, while you may be likely to paint your place on your own, even doing something as simple as switching out a toilet can be really challenging. I started thinking about how valuable professionals like plumbers were for my business, and I wanted to start a new blog that centered around how much a plumber can help to make your life better. Check out this website for tips on finding a talented plumber.

Finding The Best Location For Your New Water Heater

by Vernon Elliott

If you have decided to invest in a new water heater, then you should know that installation is not a DIY project that most people want to deal with. Water heater installation is best left to the professionals. Before they arrive, you will need to make a few decisions — one of which is where you want to have the water heater installed. This will depend on the type of device that you want. Keep reading to learn about how you can decide on placement.

Traditional Tank Heater

If you are investing in a typical tank heater, then you may simply be able to place the new one in the same place where the old one sat. However, this may not be your best option if your basement is prone to flooding issues or if your old water heater placement did not meet building codes.

The best location for the water heater is along a high area of the basement. You can use a level to find dips in the floor and to locate low spots. You can even use a marble to check for elevation and to find out which way the floor angles. The location of the sump pit or floor drain can help you with this as these are located along the lowest levels of the basement.

When it comes to building codes, the tank will need to be placed along an outside wall. This is necessary for the flue to be secured so the exhaust can be forced outside of the home. If you are looking at having an electric water heater installed, then this is not as much of an issue. However, the unit will be wired, so it should sit close to the fuse box if possible.

If you have a wet basement, then you may want to elevate the water heater. Keep in mind that the heaters are quite heavy when they are filled with water. Make sure to ask your plumbing professional if a cinder block construction can be created to elevate the water heater before installation occurs.

Tankless Heater

If you want an on-demand or tankless water heater, then you have a variety of options available to you when it comes to placement. The most important factor should involve proximity to the faucets and appliances that will be supplied with the hot water. The water will lose heat the farther it must travel from the tankless unit.

Typically, this means that you want to be placing the tankless heater on the first floor of your home near a bathroom or a kitchen. If you have a laundry room or an available closet space in this area, then this will be an ideal area. Since the units are small in most cases, they can easily be hidden.

Proximity to a gas line or an outlet is important too so that the unit is provided with the power it needs.
