Finding A Talented Plumber

Although it may seem simple to fix little things around your house, the fact of the matter is that there are a few professionals who really do work hard to make your life better. For instance, while you may be likely to paint your place on your own, even doing something as simple as switching out a toilet can be really challenging. I started thinking about how valuable professionals like plumbers were for my business, and I wanted to start a new blog that centered around how much a plumber can help to make your life better. Check out this website for tips on finding a talented plumber.

Common Groundwater Issues in Tuscon, and How to Make the Water Potable

by Vernon Elliott

Arizona is a vast, arid state with minimal amounts of fresh, natural water. That means that most of the water you are consuming in Tucson is treated water from a water treatment plant. Your home's wastewater is processed, cleaned, and sent back to your home by a series of underground pipes. Some natural water from the nearby Colorado River is added periodically to help increase water level availability to meet resident and business demands. As such, there are some common groundwater issues in Tucson, but there are ways of making it potable again too.

Sediment

As you can imagine, pulling water three hundred miles from the Colorado River through desert territory means that it tends to collect a lot of sediment. Not all sediment can be filtered out of the water at the treatment plant, either. Ergo, a lot of that sandy, gritty sediment ends up in the drinking water. You may not even realize that you are drinking sediment because the particles are smaller and almost invisible, but they are there. Your skin will feel drier and rougher for it, and your pipes will wear out a little faster than they should. Water treatment using reverse osmosis for your whole house will remove a lot of that sediment and make your water taste a lot better too.

Hard Water

Lime is the biggest problem with groundwater coming into Tucson. It is what causes limescale to build up inside your shower heads, spigots, faucets, toilet bowls, and even your washer and dishwasher. Eventually, the buildup of lime/limescale blocks the openings for all water to come into your home. It wreaks havoc on your water heater too, causing it to rust out faster and/or become less efficient. A whole-house water softener that uses potassium chloride tablets can soften and filter the water to save every appliance and water fixture in your home.

Traces of Bacteria

Since a lot of the water is processed and treated wastewater in this state, you may hear of elevated traces of bacteria from time to time. The water treatment plants do try to catch these issues before dispersing treated water, but it does not always work. If you have been told at least once in ten years to boil your water because of a bacterial issue with city water in Tucson, you are going to want a backup method of treating the water to make it less dangerous. Special tap filters with internal antibacterial filtration systems can help.
